140. Rooted Part 3 - Rooted in Real Life - The Problem with Social Media Influencers
This episode in the Rooted series is a topic I’ve been wanting to tackle for a while. I’ve been wrestling through this episode because I wanted to ensure that I’m coming at it from the right angle, with the right heart. So far in this series, we’ve chatted about being rooted in faith and we’ve chatted about being rooted in friendship…today I want to talk with you about what it looks like to be rooted in real life and how social media can actually blur the lines for us in that.
As a young, new mom, I became a regular consumer of social media as I looked for encouragement and ideas on mothering, housekeeping, eating healthy, and all the things we think and worry about as moms. I was desperate to have it all together and looked to online courses, content, and books to help me get there. But now, as a more seasoned mom, who’s tried to be so intentional about recording our life journey in a real, down-to-earth, no-gimmicks way through our podcast, blog, and social media…and as I personally have become more ROOTED in my faith and friendships, my perspective on sharing AND consuming in this space has shifted.
When we, as desperate moms, are feeling weary and burdened, we can be so quick to turn to social media for support and encouragement, when in reality, we need to be turning to the Lord and His Word. In my own personal journey to become more rooted, my eyes have been opened to my true NEED and the only answer to that feeling of desperation - Jesus.
So friend, it’s just you, me, and the mic this week…so grab a cup of coffee or your drink of choice and join me as I share more of my heart on this topic.
